I understand now that when people say some place has the best (or just good) fish and chips, they’re basing their critique largely on the seafood and not really at all on the chips

The seafood here is indeed really good. Unlike at some other places, it’s fresh and actually identifiable as real seafood.

The chips however are average and unremarkable, appearing to be the usual frozen variety. Evidently it’s not something they are shy of as when I was there, I saw them being tipped out from plastic bags ready for frying.

Good if you’re in the area, but not worth making a detour for.
