Returned to this album after waking up day with one of the melodies in my head. The album artwork, lyrics and arrangements are perfectly evocative of the depression era and exist is such a weird space – I don’t really know what genre I’m listening to and I love it. Dirty cups, burnt soup, clattering […]
Desolate and bleak novel about a group of women inexplicably imprisoned in a featureless prison who then escape to an earth like barren wilderness. The novel promises no answers from the very beginning but in doing so, asks what is our purpose for living
It is a testament to the strong narrative that a subtitled, foreign film that is essentially a black and white photo slide show should be so engaging. Amazing – this is exactly what film festivals are about
Epic and sprawling novel about a flawed gay man Published: 2017 Completed: 09/08/2024 Pages: 588 So…I am finding it very hard to write a review about this epic and sprawling novel, “The Heart’s Invisible Furies” by John Boyne. There is just so much going on that it’s a bit intimidating to find an angle to […]
Spectacular and original show that was somehow better than the recorded music. While at times it felt like a listening party, something about being literally to feel the music in your body was incredible
Love the lyrics and the style that ranges from Lana Del Rey to Taylor Swift on a good day
Thoroughly enjoying this all female band with the swagger and theatrics of Queen. Love the imagery in their lyrics too
A powerful movie with the outward presentation of a drama, but is more akin to a horror. Executed in Glazer’s typically spare style. Incredible story with incredible performances to match. Wow
Was worried when it opened with a cover of Ce Ce Peniston’s, Finally but developed into an extremely heartfelt and funny personal account. Was ugly crying by the end. Very very good https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/dr-ahmed-gets-hitched-my-big-fat-gay-greek-pakistani-wedding-af2024
A great segue from Jungle. Equally funky and soulful. Have been absolutely hammering this album
Really funky stuff. Woke up with some of the songs in my head which is always great
Very professional, fun and high energy concert. I felt very old by the end of the night with all the strobing
I have been absolutely flogging this album. Very personal themes but still that great retro pop vibe. Sad boppers
Pitch perfect and thoughtful horror movie that I am proud to know was made and filmed in Adelaide
Beautiful and enchanting film about a young shapeshifting witch and her journey to understand humans about being raised in isolation. Lovely score, incredible cinematography and understated but pitch perfect acting
Throughly enjoyable historical drama about the murder of a young duchess. Perfect amount of creative to descriptive prose
Amazing special effects – all the animal sequences were truely incredible and really made you sympathise with the characters
Rambling, but strangely compelling. Really enjoyed the drumming on some of these tracks. Catchy and alternative. Another incredible trans artist
Crystalline and ethereal contrasting with blunt and heavy. Beautiful. Hope to see him play live one day
Powerful depiction of the refugee experience but at its core, a story about a couple’s relationship under incredible strain and their journey to reconnect after shared trauma Published: 2019 Completed: 02/07/2023 Pages: 378 It’s been a really long time since I have read a book that has moved me like this has. The final pages […]
Great production design and interesting premise that is explored in an appropriately art house manner. Knew I was going to like this movie from the moment the titles screen came up with its highly graphic treatment
Highly enjoyable visually spectacular movie. Very easy watching
Watched when Pepper escaped from the yard, adding to the harrowing feeling. Like a modern relentless suburban and personal take on 2001 Space Odyssey
Really enjoyed this movie. At times it felt like a very conscious oblique intellectual exercise but after the first half an hour, opened into an intriguing multi dimensional world that allowed for lots of interesting analytical possibilities. Still mulling over it a few days after
I don’t play many games, but this was so beautiful in its visual design. I loved the premise of playing as a cat and felt invested in the world that was built
Beautiful animated movie of the tragedy affecting Afghanistan.
An incredible movie that still holds up after all this time – possibly strong nostalgia effect
Suspenseful but charming Christmas movie with a hunky David Harbour killing bad guys. Delivers on exactly what it promises
I REALLY enjoyed this. Wacky, tacky and dumb, but acted with 2000% conviction. Love the line “Does this look like the labia majora of a serial killer to you?”
Set started off very distorted, with songs I could barely recognise. However, incredibly spectacular stage production. Like being abducted by raver 70s aliens. All the great Tame Impala tracks. 200% would see again as he gets more ambitious every time
Highly polished, intensely beautiful movie with great characters and accompanying soundtrack. Ending was a bit soft though
Moody droning music. Not happy. Not sad. Just clocked out. Perfect for me right now
Great documentary about a modest and talented photographer of the 80s NY graffiti scene. Knew I was going to like this as soon as I saw the typography used in the opening credits
Restrained, classical reinterpretations of Placebo hits. Really well staged, really well done
Iconic, shocking and still powerfully raw 50 years on
Incredible expansion of the world of Radiohead reimagined in an unfettered digital gallery
This is the first ramen I’ve had in Adelaide that’s actually made me want to return for more. The broth is moreish, the egg gooey and the meat lusciously tender. I also loved the house made noodles which were the perfect consistency. The yakitori was (as it is usually in other places) pricey but equally […]
Despite working really close to here, I’ve only very recently visited for the first time. It’s really stupid, but I was put off by the use of comic sans on their outdoor signage. Stupid and snobby indeed! Naive typography aside, the yum cha here is superb. Service is efficient and the restaurant itself, spacious and […]
It’s a bad habit of mine when going to pubs to just order the standard chicken schnitzel or salt and pepper squid. I’m glad I didn’t do that here though. I’m sure their schnitzel is great, but I had the chicken and porcini pie and was really impressed – this is food clearly served with pride. My […]
This is only a review for the AB which in short, I found to be extremely good. I didn’t find the meat flavourless at all; really, how can you tell in the context of an AB? Everything was drenched in sauce – just as it should be with a good AB. The foundation of chips […]
Impeccable. Great food, lovely relaxed setting, attentive and fast service. Went here for lunch and enjoyed everything about this place. Definitely converted a few people in my group who previously were unimpressed with Greek cuisine! 2 Votes for helpful Location Prospect
My worst dining fear happened here – I managed to spill almost a complete bowl of fish sauce all over myself. While great on food, fish sauce isn’t the greatest of fragrances to wear. Thankfully this accident happened just after I had finished my wonderful meal and the staff were incredibly understanding. It’s unfortunate though […]
Really really good bread rolls! Fresh cucumber and herbs paired with well seasoned meat, inside a lightly baked and crispy Vietnamese bread roll. Service is friendly and prices are pretty fair too – especially when you consider how much a bread roll sells for in the CBD. Of particular note are the spring rolls here. […]
I don’t really know what constitutes an authentic ramen, but the one here was the first one in my life that I thoroughly enjoyed. The serving is indeed a little smaller compared to other places, but I don’t mind. I would rather less of a good thing than more of something average. Would go back! […]
It’s fried chicken with Korean side dishes. Excluding vegetarians and their vegan relatives, how could you possibly take issue with this? When a platter of the most deliciously fried chicken arrives at your table, it’s primal. Get your fingers dirty and get stuck in! Location CBD, Melbourne
Sometimes you eat at a restaurant and while the food was very interesting, you have absolutely no desire to return. Africola is not like that. They have created an accessible and clever menu that very gently pushes the boundaries. You could get a meal here that is essentially meat and 3 veg and while the […]
This place has been around for ages, and after dining here, it’s not hard to see why. It is a touch more expensive compared to other Asian restaurants on this street, but for this you get a refined dining experience, superb food and fabulous service – a trifecta that doesn’t happen very often on Gouger. […]
Surprisingly good! When you been road tripping from country town to country town, you get used to a certain ahem…standard of food. The Exchange Hotel bucks the trend and actually delivers food that is lovingly made. It’s basic for sure, but done well. My partner who is a notoriously fussy eater had nothing but accolades […]
This diminutive stall is a mandatory stop when I’m having market “yum cha” – an exercise whereby I eat little portions from lots of different eateries. It’s basically for when I’m between meals but still feel like snacking! In this case, the herb pancake and chicken wings are sure to satisfy. If you feel like […]
I really enjoyed my experience at the Mexican Society. The Mexican / Chinese thing is inspired, but looking back on it now, wasn’t that obvious to me. I think I was just won over by the lovely presentation of the food – everything was so colourful and wonderfully presented. Thankfully the taste lives up to […]
