Mostly hit, with some occasional but notable misses. Love the modern fit out for this place. Also like the diverse serving staff – it feels odd to pick that out, but they’ve avoided the temptation to just hire Asian staff which makes this place feel really cosmopolitan. Service itself is brisk but friendly and food, while a little dearer, will probably suit those looking for a casual Japanese eatery that is more refined than what’s previously been available in Adelaide.
Now to the misses: while most of the food here is great, the rice isn’t always at sushi standard. On the latest occasion we had two sushi dishes that were made with gluggy and frankly, poorly cooked rice. On a previous occasion, I had the reverse and had undercooked rice. When so much of your meal is rice, this can really affect your enjoyment of the overall meal.
My other quibble is with the water drinking cups. So while I understand the use of Japanese ceramics here generally, the rough unfinished surface on the cups make you feel like you’re going to get sand in your mouth with every sip of water. They look great! Just are a bit too rustic on the mouth. This is just my idiosyncrasy though. I doubt anyone else would care!
